- Native to mountain regions, the storm dragon loves to come out during snowy thunderstorms at high altitudes. It is a common dragon but few people know they've seen one because storm dragons look like lightning shooting across the sky and their roar sounds like rolling thunder.
- —Nogard's description of the storm dragon in The Book of Dragons
Storm dragons are extremely powerful creatures. They can send electric current through their bodies and literally electrify themselves, causing them to glow brilliantly like a bolt of lightning. Their jagged horns are more for show than combat, but can still inflict injuries.
Their thunderous roars can carry for miles, frightening away rivals. They use their speed to escape enemies.
Well adapted to the cold, storm dragons have thick fur and long eyelashes to keep blowing snow out of their eyes.
Behavior and Personality
Storm dragons are proud, territorial creatures, and can be aggressive. Despite their rough, hardy exterior, they are often vain and concerned about their looks, or insecure.
Storm dragons are territorial. Females control, and fight over, territory, and a female has access to all the males within her territory range. They typically control airspace, not a particular area of land, and if they move on foot storm dragons are allowed to pass through one another's territory.
Relationship to Wizards
Though storm dragons are common, they are rarely seen by wizards as they are easy to confuse with bolts of lightning. Most storm dragons will ignore wizards, not seeing them as a threat. However, the more territorial ones will chase wizards out.
Storm dragons live 70-90 years.
Origin of Name
Storm dragons are called that because they were thought by many cultures to be storm gods. When riding a stream of electricity, they can look like bolts of lightning, and their roars can sound like thunder. They are so often seen flying in storms that they were thought to cause them.
