- The shadow dragon is very misunderstood. Contrary to popular belief, it is not named for its shadowy countenance, but rather for its habit of following others around. Though this may seem unsettling to some, the wizards have discovered that the dragon is just remarkably curious.
- —Nogard's description of the Shadow Dragon in The Book of Dragons
Shadow dragons use Lathramancy to hide themselves. Their green glowing eyes and wings makes it hard for them to hide without it.
With their four insect-like wings, shadow dragons are pretty decent fliers. They may not fly overly fast, but reach their top speed in less than a second and can usually fly long enough to shake off predators.
The dragons cast their spells through their breath.
Despite having strong magic powers, the conflicting types of magic make them hard to use, and their spells may even backfire. On top of this, shadow dragons have lackluster physical strength, soft limbs, and thin hide.
The dragon's black skin absorbs all kinds of light, and nourishes itself this way.
Behavior and Personality
Relationship to Wizards
Shadow dragons are remarkably curious and often follow wizards around. They may attack if you pose a threat, though. DDLA has ranked them as 2.
Origin of Name
This dragon is named "Shadow Dragon" since it follows others around, like their shadow. The fact they look like a light dragon's shadow is just a happy coincidence.
