- Opal dragons are said to be capable of displaying every color in the visible spectrum. In fact they're even supposed to be able to exhibit some invisible ones as well! Some say that invisible dragons are really just opal dragons parading around in these...harder to see colors. Our wizards can neither confirm nor deny this rumor. This dragon cannot breed at this time."
- —Nogard's description of the opal dragon in The Book of Dragons
Common Opal Dragon
While "common" is taken rather relatively, seeing how rare these dragons are, this variant is black with multicolord opals across its body.
Boulder Opal Dragon
Living more on the higher parts of the Shimmering Isles, this variant is dark brown with blue stripes on it, with very small crystals.
Kiwi Opal Dragon
This variant is similar to the Common Opal Dragon, but the opals on its body have a strict green color. This variant cannot produce other colors. Mostly found in forests.
Opal dragons do not have much natural predators and thus have no adaptions for combat. However, when threatened, they use their wings to slam the opponent.
Like a chameleon, this dragon can change its colors. However, unlike a chameleon, it can change its colors to whatever it likes, independent of the environment. This way it can camouflage itself and if the rumors are true even make itself invisible.
Behavior and Personality
Relationship to Wizards
Opal dragons tend to hide from wizards, but aren't afrakd to attack when threatened. DDLA has given them a score of 2 on the danger scale.
Origin of Name
They are named for their ability to appear multicolored, like opals, as well as being adorned with them. Even their "eyes" are made of opal.
