- Meteor dragons rocket across the skies making them nearly impossible to study. The wizards hatched a plot to hide by a patch of Sarjin Peppers, meteor dragons' favorite treats. After much research and a fair share of failed experiments, the wizards have found a way to attract and keep a meteor dragon in your park. Fun fact: In the wild, the meteor dragon is often followed by a sonic dragon.
- —Nogard's description of the meteor dragon in The Book of Dragons
The meteor dragon has a characteristic streamlined, torpedo shape. Usually when it is sighted, all anyone sees of it is the bright orange flash of its flame-colored wings. Upon closer inspection, the dragon is a leaden grey, with bright, sharp metallic horns.
The meteor dragon can reach such high speeds in a dive that it breaks the sound barrier, causing a sonic boom that it can use as a weapon. They are know to use the blades on their tails to slit the wing membranes of other dragons.
They land so rarely that they are rarely attacked. But they have razor sharp blades on their tails and necks that protect them from being pounced upon in the air.
Meteor dragons are among the fastest dragons--they are so fast, in fact, that they are impossible to ride.
Though fast and agile in the air, meteor dragons are clumsy and awkward on the ground. if injured and made unable to fly, they are practically helpless.
Behavior and Personality
Meteor dragons are so elusive that not much is known about their behavior.
Relationship to Wizards
Meteor dragons will only mate with the fastest of all meteor dragons they meet.
The total life span of a meteor dragon is not known. Individuals have been found that are estimated to be 200 years old, but they are believed to live longer.
Origin of Name
Meteor dragons are named because when in the upper atmosphere, they often tuck in their wings and dive straight down to the ground, like a meteor, and are in fact often mistaken for meteors.
