- Hydra dragons are extremely picky eaters. Since no two heads can agree on what to eat at a given time, it's a wonder they finish a meal at all! Fortunately, the wizards have learned to provide them with a buffet at mealtimes, so each head gets to eat what it wants!
- —Nogard's description of the hydra dragon in The Book of Dragons
Hydra dragons have enormous bite power in all their heads, as well as a toxin in the middle head. It's not true that 2 heads will grow back when one is cut off, but the head will return except when the other heads are cut off or the body is killed too.
Hydra dragons are often overconfident and take on enemies way too powerful for them.
Behavior and Personality
As with almost all dragons with multiple heads, each head has a distinct and unique personality. Hydra dragons frequently get into arguments with themselves and have a hard time agreeing on anything.
Hydra dragons do not only have social problems with themselves, but also with other dragons (which is usually their own fault). They are mean and show no respect for others.
However, when they see a Squall Dragon, things turn upside-down. They will serve them without complaints in return for not being killed.
Relationship to Wizards
The Olymen are credited with the discovery of the hydra dragon as described in their legends. Unfortunately, the name of the specific person has been destroyed by time.
Origin of Name
Hydra dragons are named for the hydra of Olymen myth, which actually was likely based on the hydra dragon. Hydra is an Olymen word meaning "more than one head," literally, the plural of their word for head.
